Our Story

From mother's noodle cart to Michelin

There is a quiet corner of Hội An tucked inside the rush of Saigon.

Bếp Người Hội An is just a small eatery tucked into District 3. Its owner, Nguyễn Hàn Thiên, spent a decade as an IT engineer in Saigon before deciding to change course and return to the kitchen.

His childhood was spent helping his mother sell Quảng noodles from a street cart. It was there he learned that cooking is not only about good food — it is how people connect with one another. When he proposed opening the restaurant, his mother resisted: “Do you know how hard street vending is? I've suffered my whole life.”

But he believed he had grown enough to chase what he loved. From the noodles to the chicken to the eco-friendly packaging — everything is chosen with care. Because in the end, “taste-memory” is something we each carry in abundance: lift a bowl of Quảng noodles, and the memories of childhood come rushing back.

Cooking is not only about good food — it is how people connect with one another.

In 2024, then 2025, then 2026 — the kitchen was selected by the Michelin Guide three years running. Yet for Thiên, the greatest joy is not the recognition: “What makes me happy is when a guest says a dish reminds them of childhood, or when a traveller from far away leaves with a smile.”
